Celebrating Korean New Year

23 Jan

Rice cake soup or Tteokguk is traditionally prepared during the Korean new year. It is believed to bring good luck and to give additional year of life to those who eat it.

So this is what we had today to celebrate the new year. The soup basically consists of broth, thin slices of rice cake, meat (ours was beef), eggs and dried seaweeds.

I am not a big fan of tteokguk, it’s just way too heavy for my stomach.. But I did not want to miss any good luck this year so I still ate some. 🙂
